Detailed Itinerary: Salkantay Trek + Inca Trail 7 Days
This 7-day adventure combines the stunning Salkantay Trek with the legendary Inca Trail, creating one of the most complete hiking experiences to reach Machu Picchu. Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Llactapata – Ayapata Camp
Your journey begins early with hotel pickup in Cusco and transfer to Km 82, the starting point of the Inca Trail. After registration, you will begin hiking along the Urubamba River, surrounded by impressive mountain landscapes.
The first day is relatively moderate, allowing your body to adapt to the altitude. Along the way, you will visit Llactapata, an important archaeological site where your guide will introduce you to Inca history. You will continue to Ayapata camp, where you will enjoy dinner and rest.
Day 2: Ayapata – Dead Woman’s Pass – Pacaymayo – Chaquicocha
This is the most challenging day of the trek. After an early breakfast, you will ascend to Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215 m), the highest point of the trail. The climb is demanding but incredibly rewarding with panoramic views of the Andes.
After reaching the summit, you will descend into the Pacaymayo valley for lunch. In the afternoon, you will continue hiking through stunning landscapes and visit archaeological sites such as Runkurakay and Sayacmarca. The day ends at Chaquicocha camp.
Day 3: Chaquicocha – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñay Wayna
This is the most scenic day of the trek. You will walk through cloud forests, passing tunnels, terraces, and breathtaking viewpoints. One of the highlights is Phuyupatamarca, known as the “City Above the Clouds.”
You will then descend to Wiñay Wayna, one of the most beautiful Inca sites along the trail. After exploring the site, you will reach your final campsite and enjoy your last night under the stars.
Day 4: Sun Gate – Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
On the final day, you will wake up early to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) at sunrise. From here, you will enjoy your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu — a truly unforgettable moment.
After descending into the citadel, you will take part in a guided tour exploring the most important areas of Machu Picchu. Later, you will take the bus to Aguas Calientes and board the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by transportation to Cusco.
